Going Green at Bambinos – Restaurant in Springfield Missouri
With warmer weather finally here, it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. It’s also a great time to evaluate your own impact on the earth. At home, that could mean purchasing food in bulk to reduce packaging or using eco-friendly cleaning products. But what happens when you’re eating at a local restaurant in Springfield Missouri? Here at Bambinos, we are taking steps to make our restaurants an eco-friendly dining experience.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
When choosing a location for your next dinner date or office lunch, don’t be afraid to ask restaurants about their approach to eco-friendly dining. At Bambinos, we focus on making our restaurants as green as possible. That means taking extra steps to recycle our cardboard items, glass, and even composting extra food to reduce waste. Bambinos on Battlefield is located just down the street from one of Springfield’s recycling centers, which means we have easy access to recycling facilities.
We also compost our food at our sister cafe, B2 Cafe. Our cafe collects its scraps- including leftover vegetables, egg shells, and other remainders throughout the day. This food waste is picked up by a local business to be used later for gardening.
Using Eco-Friendly Materials
Traditional plastic drinking straws are one of the most common pieces of trash found littering our oceans. These seemingly innocuous items can be highly harmful, especially when they’re being discarded by the ton at restaurants around the world. At Bambinos, we’ve switched to a biodegradable straw option. We’re still encouraging our customers to be judicious when deciding if a straw is really necessary by only offering straws upon request – because even biodegradable straws contribute to our footprint – but our biodegradable straws are a great step in the right direction.
We are also proud to be styrofoam free. Styrofoam contains dangerous chemicals that can leach into the food they are holding (especially when heated). This type of container can hurt both you and the environment. In order to avoid this, our restaurants have Bio-Plus Earth food containers. These food containers and soup cups are made from 100% recycled paperboard that is bio-degradable. While our Bio-Plus Earth containers are better than other alternatives, you can still consider bringing in your own reusable containers for leftovers if you want to take this a step further.
With a little creativity and foresight, you can enjoy your dining experience while being mindful of your impact on the earth. At Bambinos Cafe, we’re committed to helping you save the earth one biodegradable straw and container at a time. Questions about our eco-friendly practices?
